I woke up early again [probably because of my super long nap yesterday] and was out the door by 8.30. This time, before venturing out I had contrived a plan to walk to Karlovo namesti [Charles square] and then on to Vaclavske namesti [Wenceslas square]. Vaclavske namesti is the main part of the city. It is a little farther than I had anticipated but it was a good walk. I entered on the end that has the museum which was very fascinating. Right now, they are having an interesting exhibit that is called 1945 freedom - 1968 occupation. It is about when the Soviets occupied Czechoslovakia.

Outside, in the middle of the square, just past the King Wenceslas statue, there are a bunch of poster type things on display. They are photographs taken by Franz Goess for a magazine. The morning the Russians rolled into Prague artists started drawing and producing many different dissenting posters and such. By the next morning they had all been torn down and burned by the Soviets. They were lost to history except til now, when on the 40th anniversary of the Soviet occupation, Goess has given them to the museum for exhibition. Its really cool! After looking at those I walked further down the square seeing what it had to offer and, naturally, after locating the H&M [:)] I purchased some necessities, only two things. Now it was lunch time and I went to a nearby market and bought a roll, some salami, a nectarine, and some beer [a pilsner urquell]. My first Czech beer, not at all bad [get excited dad! I see a trip in our future!]

Then I went back to the museum to take some more photos. I forgot to mention that in front of the museum they had a Soviet tank and recreations of original graffiti from the occupation. I went inside to see if I would be willing to pay to see the rest of the exhibit. And I would because it was free! Inside was really cool! The floor was covered in copies of old newspapers as well as the windows [there are pictures of both]. There were also lots of relics and a movie from 1968. One thing that I thought was particularly cool was that there were actual gold and bronze Olympic medals from the 1968 winter Olympics in Czechoslovakia. Pretty awesome!! Anyway, then I walked back to the flat along the Vltava and had my nap of the day, ha! Today I met my other roommate. She is from China. I'm not sure now if I told you all that I met my first roommate. Well, if I didn't, her name is Young Ah and she is from Korea. They both seem really nice, though Young Ah doesn't speak much English. Tonight is our walking tour, it starts around 19.30 [7.30]. Hopefully its pretty awesome! At least it will give me the opportunity to meet other people in the program
